I tried 'display_ror yes' but now the monitor says "sync out of range." The monitor is a 19" CRT with a max resolution of 1600x1200. Any ideas? -- Eric Robinson ________________________________ From: John W. Cocula [mailto:jo...@co...] Sent: Monday, November 03, 2008 9:04 AM To: Robinson, Eric Cc: adv...@li... Thanks for reminding me about this. Very happy to hear it! One quick question: Do you know if there's a way to rotate games 90 degrees so the vertical ones will look right on a PC monitor turned on its side? Yes, indeed. Put the line display_ror yes in your ~/.advance/advmame.rc file. There is a goldmine of options in the advmame.rc file! John -- Eric Robinson ________________________________ From: John W. Subject: Re: [advancemame-users] AdvMAME Opens in Tiny Window Eric, I believe the big performance bottleneck that you're seeing is that it's running in an X-based window and not using the frame-buffer driver directly. Try to build and run AdvMAME using the fb driver, with X completely not running, and you will see dramatically better video performance. I'm afraid my detailed set of tip and tricks is too distant in the past, but a few details of my system are here: http://cocula/content/cocktail-table-arcade-machine <http://cocu.la/content/cocktail-table-arcade-machine> John On Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 7:13 AM, Robinson, Eric <eri...@ps...> wrote: > Newbie here! > > I was told that MAME works well on low-power computers. I don't know if this applies to AdvMAME as well. I have Linux (2.6.9.34) installed on an 800MHz Dell with 384MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 7500 card. When I start MAME, it opens in a tiny 2" window. If I try to use AdvMAME's features to make the window bigger, the game's frame rate slows down to a crawl. If I switch to "full screen mode" the game (1943kai) gets bigger and runs at normal speed, but it still leaves about 1.5 inches of black screen at the top and bottom. Is there anything I can do to make to games run full screen at normal speed aside from buying a much faster computer? > > --Eric Disclaimer - November 3, 2008 This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for John W.
