Sorry to bother you on the devel list but it seems that most of you read
only this one :-)
I'm interested in debugging ACPI and more over I belong to a LUG where
I've been told to learn how to implement ACPI on laptops so that I can
"teach" the others how to get things working on their own.
However I've noticed that even though you guys are doing a great work on
acpi there is a lack of good howto's that explain the esentials of ACPI.
THe howto on the acpi homepage is dated january 2001 and I presume is
I seem to understand that a good acpi implementation (including swsusp)
is done by applying the following patches to 2.4.18 kernel (as there's
non swsusp for 2.4.19):
*) acpid (for intercepting acpi signals for use on gui monitoring
software for instance)
*) a acpi complying gui app for the window manager.
*) pmtools is needed for debugging purposes
Am i missing something?

not needed anymore.
this patch is needed by presario 7xx family if you use the acpi patch prior
with the latest the SCI is handled properly

and the supporting scripts in /etc/acpi
they are essential, I would like to see an example on the web page

For Toshiba Laptops:
Toshiba Laptop Extras (included in most recent acpi patches) and
supporting hotkey daemon (by John Belmonte).
I modified the latter to support Toshiba Tecra 9xxx series notebooks.
Send me an email, if you are interested.
