Aciqra 2.3.1 Released

Aciqra is a virtual planetarium for observers of the real sky.

Aciqra 2.3.1 brings a few notable changes since Aciqra 2.3.0. Rise, set and transit times are now determined through a binary search instead of a simple linear search. Comet rendering has been made more physically accurate for most situations. In addition, there have been some minor adjustments to the interface.

Aciqra 2.3 Released

Aciqra is a virtual planetarium for observers of the real sky.

Aciqra 2.3 now renders comets semi-realistically with two tails: a dust tail and an ion tail. The parameters of these tails are based off of physics and observational data from comets in the past. With this update, Aciqra is currently the only free and open source planetarium to render comets as comets (at least of those we know of).

Other changes include improved anti-aliasing, path tracing and the display of alternative names for stars and deep space objects.... read more

Aciqra: 1.1 Released

Aciqra is a virtual planetarium and sky mapping program which dynamically displays the locations of planets, deep sky objects and comets as seen from anywhere on the Earth. Version 1.1 is the first major update since December of 2008.

The release, most notably, now supports comet tracking. Although crude, it has the ability to track periodical comets to a precision of 1.5 degrees over the next 50 years. A bare-bones comet editor has also been implemented allowing for the easy addition of a new comet. Comets with near parabolic or hyperbolic orbits may also be tracked but with a far greater margin of error. Future releases should fix this.... read more

Aciqra: 1.0 Released

A simple and fast, C#-based planetarium program which tracks and displays the locations of planets, minor planets, stars and also deep sky objects.

The initial and most important release of Aciqra is complete. The 8000 lines of code was the result of over 30 hours worth of code. The graphics in the program are very crude. These will be steadily redone over the next few releases to meet its standard of "elegance."... read more
