If I take that command and remove the : before the bitrate and run the command manually it works just fine. I noticed when I select xvid the video options box is empty, could that be the problem? Perhaps something has to be in there?
Anyone have any ideas?

The options you supplied did work, the link you gave was a 404 though. However it doesn't give any feedback that it is actually working. But I can tell it is. Wonder how long this will take heh

I am trying to use acid rip, when I start the encoding the debug window spits out this error ...
Option xvidencopts: Unknown suboption
Error parsing option on the command line: -xvidencopts
This is the command it is running
mencoder dvd://1 -dvd-device /dvd -alang English -info srcform="DVD ripped by acidrip.sf.net" -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts :bitrate=647 -vf pp=de,crop=720:352:0:62,scale=480:-2 -o "/home/pablo/movie.avi"

If the blank options doesn't appear to work as expected, try using some of the options defined at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-xvid.html.
I'm using the options for Very High Quality encoding: chroma_opt:vhq=4:bvhq=1:quant_type=mpeg
