Project News for Cygwin GNOME

  • Final(?) update

    Hi, all friends

I made a update to cygnome-1.4 package repository. Perhaps this update
perhaps is the final one. As we're heading to GNOME2, it seems that
there's nothing more we want to do with it.

This time there isn't too many new package release(except gvim-6.2 and
a little change to startgnome). I just re-uploaded some packages to the
    installation repository (http://cygnome.sourceforge.net/install).
These packages were released on the project's Files page
    (https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=67909),
but Due to some reason (e.g some packages are too big) was no uploaded
to repository, thus kept not available for direct access from Cygwin setup.

    * deleted some old releases to make room
    * Fixed a bug in startgnome (thanks Brian Fennell)
    * New: gvim-6.2-3, actually built on Aug, 2003
    * uploaded some big packages
    - gnumeric-1.0.9
    - anjuta-1.0.1
    - gimp-1.2.3
    * uploaded packages released after 2003/05/01, including:
    - gtk+ updated to 1.2.10-20, which enabled X_LOCALE
    - mah-jong 1.5.6
    - d4x 1.30
    - gtk-engines-extra 20030829
    - gtk-themes-extra 20030829
    - sylpheed-claws 0.9.6 and sylpheed-iconset-20030923
    - gnome-commander 1.0.1
    * some other packages
    - gnome-python-1.4.1-5 (made for python-2.2)
    - glimmer-1.0.1 and 1.2.1, the former needs pygtk
    - xmms-1.2.7
    * and some special packages
    - psmisc-20.2 (killall)
    - mc-4.5.55 (prefix=/usr/local, statically against glib,
but it support subshell and smbfs)
    - wmaker-0.80.0 (prefix=/usr/local,
but XIM and GNOME hint support was enabled)
    - libungif-4.1.0-9b1 (built before libtool age,
    our wmaker needs it)

  • Some updates in recent days

    gtk+-1.2.10-20
    -----------------
We have gtk+-1.2.10 rebuilt, this time X_LOCALE are forced.
Also the Ximian's enhancement for the file selector (navigation buttons for $HOME, ~/.gnome-desktop, ~/Documents) is merged in.

    sylpheed-claws-0.9.6
    --------------------
Sylpheed-claws updated to new main upstream release.
As aspell now is a official cygwin package, this time we enabled aspell support.
If you're still using cygwin-1.3 series, you can use the package we provided,
    it's just a rebuild on cygwin-1.3.
And widechar support issue is fixed in the Cygwin port.

    d4x-1.30
    --------
A new application for Cygwin GNOME, but the Cygwin port is not stable enough.
Downloader for X, a FTP/HTTP download manager for X window system
    Homepage: http://www.krasu.ru/soft/chuchelo

    mah-jong-1.5.6
    --------------
A new game for Cygwin GNOME.
    Mah-jong: The original Mah-Jong game
Keep in mind that the original Mah-Jong game has nothing to do with the well-known solitaire game.

  • GNOME 2.2.1 patches available for test

    Hi, all!
After a long and hard built, we've got nearly all GNOME 2.2.1 packages built and run on cygwin,
and included newly XFree86 packages freetype 2.1.3, fontconfig 2.1, Xft 2.0.1.
They are glib2, GTK+2, atk, pango, linc, ORBit2, bonobo-activation, etc... about all the packages of base
GNOME 2.2.1 desktop (get the sources from http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/desktop/2.2/2.2.1/sources/).
We also get metacity window manager and nautilus file manager to work, and some applications like gaim, gedit, ggv, etc.
Well, there are so many of bugs :-( and not stable yet, but, the GNOME 2.2 on cygwin is ready to run!

Well, I'll be on a long-term business trip right now, so I have no time to find out the bugs and
upload binary packeages, sorry, please wait...
However I have uploaded the patches on http://cygnome2.sourceforge.net/test-patches/,
they can get the sources *compiled*. If you are interest in GNOME2 on cygwin , you can try these patches,
and try to find out the BUGs!
    Thanks!

I've uploaded some screenshots on http://cygnome2.sourceforge.net/screenshots/.
