New Version (2.1.1, 3.0M2) Available now:
New Version Available now: The most popular J2EE Plug-In Lomboz v2.1.1 and 3.0M2
Lomboz is a free Eclipse plugin for J2EE developers. The tool follows a simple principle: "No magic tricks". Lomboz is integrated with many popular open source J2EE tools such as: Jasper, XDoclet, Axis and Ant. And naturally Eclipse and the Eclipse Java Development Toolkit (JDT). Lomboz implements an end-to-end J2EE application development philosophy supporting the complete development cycle: Code, deploy, test and debug.
The main features are:
Wizards for rapid coding: Containers, Servlets, JSPs, and EJBs
o Flexibility to manipulate the launching and deployment behaviors by allowing developers to modify corresponding XML scripts
o J2EE Project Outlining View: Allowing developers to view and manipulate containers in projects
o EJB code generators
o New: Improved EJB and XDoclet wizards .
A whole new JSP editor with
o Java" Servlet and Template previews
o JSP and HTML code assist with syntax checking and highlighting
o Tracking of JSP errors with standard Eclipse problem markers
o New: The ability to edit a JSP file regardless of how it is packaged in web modules.
o New: Code assist for taglibs.
The most complete Application Server support
o Application server launchers and stoppers for and almost any J2EE compliant server including:
JBoss, Resin, Tomcat, JRun, BEA WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere, Oracle 9iAS, Orion
o Manage and launch multiple application-server configurations inside Eclipse in Run or Debug modes
o JSP debugging for JBoss, Resin, Orion, Oracle, Tomcat and BEA WebLogic Server
o Manage multiple Web , EJB and Application (EAR) modules inside the same project.
o Ability to target multiple application servers from the same project
Web Services Support
o Web Services wizards
o Web Services code generators
New: EAR support. Create application archives quickly and deploy them on application servers using Lomboz actions. A graphical application.xml editor allows you to edit the contents of an application rapidly.
Lomboz has been developed by people who have build real J2EE systems, a plug-in that does not tell you how to do things. It does what you tell it to do.

Announcing plans
Dear Lomboz Users,
Lomboz is almost 18 months old now. A lot has changed since. It is no more the only tool available for J2EE, and it is not the best one either. We are doing our best to improve on what is available out there. As you all know, the eclipse web tools project has been announced and it will probably have many features that are provided with Lomboz.
We will not stop. We did Lomboz because we needed it and mostly because it was fun. It is still a lot of fun. And we will continue to do it and contribute to web tools project too.
Worst case scenario is, we will challenge web tools project with features so that it gets better.
A) New release available at the end of July, 2003 featuring improved functionality:
A whole new jsp editor with Java and HTML previews, and ability to edit a JSP file regardless of how it is packaged in web modules. Code assist for TLDs and taglibs.
Improved EJB wizards and editing based on XDoclet.
EAR support
Support for WebLogic Server 8.1, JRun, JBoss 3.2, Resin, ATG Dynamo, WebSphere 5.0, Orion and JSP editors, more application servers added to the supported list and more Web services
Bug fixes
B) Lomboz Project will be launched as open source:
As continued commitment to Java and Eclipse open source process, we will release the complete source code for Lomboz in Q3 2003. We will continue the development of Lomboz independent of the Eclipse web tools project. We also participate in the Eclipse Web tools project and contribute parts of Lomboz, if appropriate, to web tools. In the long run we see eclipse web tools project and Lomboz to co-exist. We will start using functionality that is available in web tools as the basis for Lomboz and complement it with additional features.
Now, Lomboz is not only free but is also open-source. We will continue to provide support for both eclipse and Lomboz.
C) Professional support services:
We understand that some organizations require enterprise level support for products. Community support is important but not sufficient. Eteration provides enterprise level support and training for Lomboz and Eclipse.
Enterprise level online-support is provided with maximum 24/48 hours of return time for a set number of support requests/month for a fixed price and an additional support requests can be accommodated for an incremental price. We will assign a single point of contact and a backup contact for each support account. Each new support case is assigned a support case number, and tracked with this number, multiple requests/replies made on the same support case do not count as new support requests for accounting purposes. We will assign a single point of contact on our side for each support case to provide continuity.
