Someday I may still develop this..
As it turns out, projects SuperTux and Windstille are in the process of developing a really solid 2D game engine. A few years back when I thought up the idea of "MegaTux" there was nothing available and I had nowhere near enough time to develop something myself. Once the 2D engine is more or less complete, I may actually still develop this project just for the fun of it. With Blender coming along quite nicely, it will be be possible to use that for character animations as well. It even has a toon shader. If anybody happens to find this page and wants to start developing sooner, let me know and I'll add you to the project. I just won't be able to help until life settles down a bit.

still not dead!
hah. yeah, this is hideously lame. It's been a little over a year since I last even logged in. But I've been busy elsewhere. Such is life. The Megatux project is "officially" starting up again, this time with some goals. The first set of character graphics are being prepared and I've decided to use Kyra, the SDL sprite engine, as the basis of this project. One of these days, I'll post the beginning stages of animation programming such that Tux can run around and jump and maybe even shoot.
Next comes a basic map editor and object system. Once everything is debugged, I'll flesh out the enemies, etc. Placeholder graphics will have to suffice until then.

Not dead
Though it would appear so, the MegaTux project is not dead from the start. We are working on a lot of the basic underlying code and trying to come up with a decent game engine that will run acceptably on all reasonably modern hardware. Suffices to say, this is not an easy task--especially since we are aiming for a viewport of 640x480 and would like to have as much in-game eye candy as possible. Graphics art work is also progressing nicely. I'll post some of the results to the project homepage as soon as I get the time. Unfortunately, school is absorbing most of it. Thanks for your patience.
