Durito to receive Linuxfund grant
Linuxfund has awarded a grant to Durito, an XML- and RDF-based application that will be used to publish interviews on the Mexican Revolution and quite possibly other multimedia archives. Those wishing to help out with this project may visit http://durito.sourcerforge.net for details. Many thanks to both Sourceforge and Linuxfund for their support. "Durito" stands for Documents foUnd, Reproduced and studIed using a free software applicaTiOn--or, in Spanish, Documentos Ubicados, Reproducidos e Investigados a Través de un sistema de sOftware libre.

Large chunk of Durito's framework uploaded
An important part of Durito's general structure has been uploaded to CVS and is also available in .zip form as the Recent_code release. All comments are welcome, and should be posted to the durito-devl mailing list. Thanks.

Sample documents from the "Testimonios Zapatistas" archive are now available. We are distributing them to provide developers with concrete examples from the first digital collection that Durito will manage.

Durito: developers wanted!
This project's goal is the creation of a flexible XML- and RDF-based framework for publishing and searching within documents in Web and CD-ROM environments. Durito will be basically an assembly of already existing open-source components; most of the original code we write will serve as "glue" to link these together.
Following the uploading of Durito's home page, we're now ready to accept any help we can get!
If you're interested in participating, please read the project proposal located there
(http://durito.sourceforge.net). A general understanding of XML, RDF and the goals of the
Semantic Web, as well as fluency in Perl, would be useful for people wishing to get involved.
On the home page, the sections "Immediate Tasks" and "Components Found and to Be Found"
detail some of the most urgent stuff we've got to deal with, as far as I can see.
For those wanting more information on "Testimonios Zapatistas" (TZ), the oral history project that gave rise to Durito: that site should be available soon!
Many thanks,
Andrew
