the Robotics Toolbox for Scilab/Scicos

Project News for the Robotics Toolbox for Scilab/Scicos

  • First beta of RTSS 1.0.0 released

    Dear Scilab/Scicos users, it took longer than expected,but a new release of the Robotics Toolboxfor Scilab/Scicos (1.0.0b1) is finally available for download. RTSS is intended for modeling and simulation of robotic manipulatorsin the Scilab/Scicos environment and has been developed at Centro"E. Piaggio" by the student Matteo Morelli since 2007, as a project forthe undergraduate robotics course at the Faculty of Engineering at theUniversity of Pisa, Italy. RTSS is distributed under the terms of theGNU General Public License, in the hope that it will be useful, BUTWITHOUT ANY WARRANTY. Originally inspired by the Robotics Toolbox for Matlab by Peter Corke,RTSS provides many functions that are useful in the field of robotics toexplore areas such as kinematics, dynamics and trajectory generation.This is a quick summary of its key features as of release 1.0.0b1: * Library of Scilab macros for modelling, simulation, visualization and animation of serial-link robotic manipulators. * Integration in Scicos, enabling development of high-fidelity robot models and control systems in a single environment. * Compatibility with a broad range of code generators available for Scicos, that makes it possible to develop standalone applications (controllers) which can be used, in particular, in real-time applications. * Demonstration scripts which show how the toolbox can be productively used in studying robotics. * Online documentation in English, integrated with Scilab's help browser.RTSS is hosted on SourceForge.net: for more information, please visitits main web-site at http://rtss.sourceforge.net/ The RTSS package is distributed as source code and as prebuiltbinaries for several platforms. Prebuilt RTSS-1.0.0b1 is built on top ofScicosLab, therefore it requires ScicosLab to run. If, for some reason,the user needs to work with the old Scilab-4.1.2, then he or she shouldconsider to install the source version of RTSS-1.0.0b1, which works withall the versions of Scilab based on the official BUILD4 distribution.RTSS is not yet compatible with Scilab-5.x. RTSS is available fordownload at: http://rtss.sourceforge.net/download.html RTSS Development Team welcomes new participants. Interested users cancontribute in several ways: reporting and/or fixing bugs, writing newfunctions, revising existing functions to be more efficient, writing newdemos and documentation. For more information, please visit theContributions page at http://rtss.sourceforge.net/contrib.htmlBest Regards,Matteo Morelli-- RTSS Developer and Project Admin.

  • Working environments for RTSS: A summary

    Dear RTSS users,

    in the last months, a lot of things have changed within the Scilab Community. As of version 5, Scilab/Scicos development has splitted into two separate projects: Scilab-5.x (http://www.scilab.org/), which has the lastest Scilab features but not the latest Scicos ones, and ScicosLab (http://www.scicoslab.org/) --maintained by the original developers of Scilab at INRIA and ENPC-- which is based on the official Scilab BUILD4 distribution and has the latest Scicos advancements and bug fixes but not the latest Scilab-5.x features.

    In order to clarify the situation and help RTSS users to understand

    1. which environments the current RTSS is compatible with, and
    2. what they have to expect from the future of RTSS

    a new section titled "Distributions and Working Environments" is available at the download page of RTSS web site. Also, the two following articles are available at RTSS Development Wiki:

    * Compatibility_with_Scilab-5.x (http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/rtss/index.php?title=Compatibility_with_Scilab-5.x).
    * Compatibility_with_ScicosLab-4.3 (http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/rtss/index.php?title=Compatibility_with_ScicosLab-4.3).

    Please read them carefully and don't hesitate to ask in the Help Forum (http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=739568) for any further clarification.

  • RTSS Wiki is available

    Dear Scilab users, quite a lot of work has been carried out on RTSS over the last five months. More information about RTSS development status can be found in the RTSS Wiki at http://rtss.wiki.sourceforge.net/.

    A detailed description of some development tasks still has to be completed. However, as things stand now, RTSS Wiki can already be considered the main reference source to learn about the major planned features for future releases of RTSS, and to learn some details about its internal implementation.

    In the next weeks, both the development of RTSS and the updating of the Wiki contents will be carried out. Therefore, in order to always be up-to-date with the latest advances in development, interested users should regularly check the RTSS Wiki for updates and or changes, and are also encouraged to subscribe to the mailing list for developers at https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rtss-devel.

    For comments and/or questions, please contact the RTSS development team through the mailing list for developers.

  • RTSS 0.3.0 released

    Dear Scilab users, a new release of the Robotics Toolbox for Scilab/Scicos (RTSS) is finally available for download. The 0.3.0 is a minor release in which significant fixes have been added. The use of RTSS 0.3.0 is therefore highly recommended.

    Please refer to the README file that is included in the distribution for more information on upgrades from RTSS 0.2.0, and do not hesitate to report any problems in the Help Forum:
