  • TIPC 1.7.6-rc1 for Linux Released

The Transparent Inter Process Communication (TIPC) protocol enables quick and reliable communication between applications in a clustered computer environment, and is an emerging standard for messaging on multi-core and multi-processor systems. Open Source TIPC software has been incorporated into a number of operating systems, including the Linux kernel and VxWorks; support for Solaris is also available.

We are pleased to announce the release of TIPC version 1.7.6-rc1 for Linux. This is a stable release, and is being issued as a "candidate" to provide an opportunity for developers of the Solaris and VxWorks releases of TIPC 1.7.6 to request changes prior to the official release of TIPC 1.7.6 on Linux. All TIPC 1.7 users are encouraged to upgrade to this release.

TIPC 1.7.6 contains all capabilities provided by TIPC 1.7.5, plus:
    - all bug fixes and enhancements for TIPC 1.7.5
    - all bug fixes and enhancements added to the TIPC 1.6 stream since the release of TIPC 1.7.5
    - it supports newer Linux kernels (runs on 2.6.16-2.6.26)

Software and associated documentation for this release can be found at:

  • TIPC 1.7.5 for Solaris Released

The Transparent Inter Process Communication (TIPC) protocol enables quick and reliable communication between applications in a clustered computer environment, and is an emerging standard for messaging on multi-core and multi-processor systems. Open Source TIPC software has been incorporated into a number of operating systems, including the Linux kernel and VxWorks.

Laurent Ganne and Renaud Metrich are pleased to announce that a TIPC 1.7.5 implementation is available on Solaris 10 Update 4 and later (including Solaris Express editions).

This implementation still needs some tuning, but is fully functional. It should be available on the TIPC SourceForge site shortly. In the mean time, you can already download the Solaris packages or source files on the OpenSolaris' TIPC webpage here: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/tipc

In order to use it, after installation of the SUNWtipc package, you need to preload a new library called libtipcsocket.so. This library enables support of TIPC without modifying the Solaris sockets implementation at all.

  • PTTS 1.1 Released

The Transparent Inter Process Communication (TIPC) protocol enables quick and reliable communication between applications in a clustered computer environment, and is an emerging standard for messaging on multi-core and multi-processor systems. Open Source TIPC software is supported on a number of operating systems, including Linux and VxWorks.

We are pleased to announce the release an updated version of the Portable TIPC Test Suite for TIPC 1.7. The test suite provides basic sanity testing for TIPC, which can be used to verify that TIPC has been installed and configured correctly and to regression test TIPC patches for enhancements and bug fixes. Users can also modify the existing tests or add new ones by building upon the infrastructure provided by the test suite.

PTTS version 1.1. is available for both Linux and VxWorks platforms. The test suite can also be ported to other operating systems by encapsulating the portable "core" of the test suite within a small amount of OS-specific wrapper code.
