  • Release 1.2.0 Alpha

    Announcement: wxCL 1.2.0 (December 12, 2005) ***
    ---------------------------

    <http://www.wxcl-project.org>

We are pleased to announce the release wxCL-1.2.0 (Alpha), the latest
installment in wxCL development effort. In this release wxCL now
provides a CLOS based interface to the underlying wxWidgets
library. The programmer no longer needs to know the detail of the
underlying foreign function interface to use the wxCL library. This
    release is not backward compatible.

    What is wxCL?
    -------------

wxCL aims to provide an industrial strength GUI library to application
programmers which is portable across Common Lisp implementations and
operating system platforms. It builds upon wxWidgets, a comprehensive
C++ library that provides uniform application interface to all major
GUI platforms: including GTK, Windows, X11, and MacOS X.

    Availability:
    -------------

The current release of wxCL 1.2.0 runs on CLISP, and is tested on
Windows XP but it should work on Linux and Mac OS X as well (not
tested due to lack of resources).

    It can be downloaded from:

    We need your help.
    ------------------
If you are a Common Lisp, C++, or C hacker, we will appreciate if you
join our development team and help us in improving the library.
Contributors (including newbies) with all levels of expertise are
welcome. Even if you cannot contribute with code, helping us in making
design choices, reporting bugs, or telling us why you favor the blend
of wxWidgets with Common Lisp over other windowing systems and what
aspects are important for you in this decision, etc., will also help
us in making this product better.

  • Release 1.1.1 Alpha

    Announcement: wxCL 1.1.0 (September 23, 2005) ***
    ---------------------------
    <http://www.wxcl-project.org>

We are pleased to announce the release wxCL-1.1.1 (Alpha), the
latest installment in wxCL development effort. This release now
includes wxWidgets 2.6.2 dll. There are also a number of bug fixes,
and some api enhancements. This version is more stable with
native clisp on Windows XP. Please see the Change Log for
complete list of changes. Please read the quick start guide before
using this version as using the 2.6.2 dll requires you to close the
library every time you finish the program. Also, don't forget to take
a look at the cvs version of wxGlade,
(http://wxglade.sourceforge.net/) which provides a cool way of
    creating wxCL GUI's.

  • Release - 1.0.0 Aplha

    Announcement: wxCL 1.0.0
    ---------------------------

We are pleased to announce the first release (1.0.0 Alpha) of wxCL, a
new open source GUI library for Common Lisp. The goal of the project
is to provide an industrial strength portable GUI library for
application developers, which runs across all lisp implementation and
    operating system platforms.

wxCL builds upon wxWidgets, a comprehensive C++ library that provides
uniform application interface to all major GUI platforms; including
GTK, Windows, X11, and MacOS X. wxWidgets is a mature library which
was first released in 1992, and since improved upon by a committed
developer community, it is ranked among the top 25 most active
projects on sourceforge. wxWidgets makes many features available to
Common Lisp environments which have been missing in traditional
GUI toolkits for this programming language.

The current release of wxCL already supports about 75 % of the
wxWidgets (release 2.4.2) functionality: almost 1,500 member functions
of 125 classes with 1,200 constant definitions. It runs on CLISP, an
open-source, ANSI-compliant implementation of Common Lisp and is
tested on Windows XP but it should work on Linux and Mac OS X as well
(not tested due to lack of resources).

Most of the Foreign Function Interface were automatically generated
using the clisp module of SWIG from the C bindings written by wxEiffel
and wxHaskell project groups. Due to the size of the library, not all
of the bindings have been validated, but we expect most of them to
    work without much tweaking.

We look forward to your feedback on the first release of wxCL and hope
    it serves your needs.

    All the best,
    wxCL - Project Team.
