Project News for Scribus

  • Scribus 1.3.3.10 Released

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.3.10

This stable release adds the following:

Several fixes and improvements to text frames and the Story Editor.
    New Arabic Translation.
    More translation and documentation updates.
Many improvements to PDF Forms exporting and non-Latin script handling in
    PDFs.
Several fixes to protect against possible crashes.
Improved Color Managed Display in some cases.
Some fixes to the Scripting plugin.

One of the major additions to this release is the final complete German
translation of the Scribus documentation by Christoph Schäfer and Volker
Ribbert. This is a very well done translation and the Scribus Team wishes to
    thank them for their efforts.

As we announced previously, there will be no more development or bug
fixes to 1.2.x series. We now recommend all distributions package
only Scribus 1.3.3.x, nor do we recommend packaging 1.3.4 o4 1.3.5svn
releases unless they are marked as experimental or development only.

The Scribus Team is working steadily on finishing the Qt4 port of Scribus with
1.3.5svn and expects to release this in the coming months.

The Scribus Team will also participate again at the Third Libre Graphics
Meeting in Krakow, Poland in May. LGM is open to all and the team welcomes
seeing users, contributors and potential developers. For more info see:

  • Scribus 1.3.4

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus
    1.3.4 Антон

Almost one year in the making, this release brings Scribus to a new
plateau in professional print capabilities, innovative features and a
    completely re-written text layout engine.

Among the major new features in 1.3.4:

    * A rewritten preview mode which allows designers and artists to view
layouts on screen as readers with color viewing deficiencies would
view a document. Thus, this enables a designer to avoid color
    combinations which affect legibility.

    * Major additions to TIFF/PSD support. This includes the ability to
use clipping paths in TIFF and PSD files to allow text wrapping. In
addition, Scribus now can import special flavors of EPS exported from
Photoshop known as Desktop Color Separations (version 1.0 and 2.0).
Layers, blend modes, Duo,Tri and Quadtone PSD files are now also
    supported.

    * The new styles and text capabilities include style inheritance for
paragraphs, character styles and line styles. This is now managed by
    a new style manager palette.

    * The new text layout engine has a multitude of enhancements for
vastly better more appealing justification, including the use of
optical margins and more sophisticated word spacing algorithms.

*New pre-press capabilities including, registration marks, crop marks,
calibration bars and document meta info. These are all easily managed
within the print and PDF export dialogs.

    * Color management enhancements including better CMYK > CMYK
    conversions.
    * A rewritten and more capable Scrapbook
    * Support for patterns; both bitmap and vector
    * A more capable Align and Distribute Palette
    * Extended Multiple Copying
*New transparency features including blend modes for layers and
    individual objects
    * A new cross-platform Icon set from the Tango Project

With 1.3.3.7 we announced the availability of a new OpenSuse rpm download repository for all Suse versions 9.3+, ncluding SLED 10. About Scribus

Scribus is a cross-platform open source page layout application with a focus on high quality commercial grade PDF and postscript export.
Originally developed on Linux, Scribus now runs natively on MacOSX, OS/2, many forms of Unix and Windows 2000/XP.

  • Scribus 1.3.3.7 Release

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.3.7
This release is purely a further bug fix release to the recently
released 1.3.3.6. Scribus is a cross-platform open source page layout application with a
focus on high quality commercial grade PDF and postscript export.
Originally developed on Linux, Scribus now runs natively on MacOSX,
OS/2, many forms of Unix and Windows 2000/XP.

This release adds more translation updates, some bugs were found and
fixed, many improvements to the SVG importer. A new splash screen and
other artwork were contributed by Kevin Young.

One of two major additions to this release is the porting of Scribus
to OS/2 by Paul Smedley. This port is lightly tested and there are
some known issues noted in the readme for OS/2, along with notes on
installation. No major code changes were required and in testing it
    has been fairly stable.

The other is the availability of a new OpenSuse rpm download
repository for all Suse versions 9.3+, including SLED 10. To download
    add: http://software.opensuse.org/download/home:/mrdocs/ to your
yast/apt/smart source list for the corresponding Suse version. We
hope have this for Mandriva and Fedora 5+ shortly.

As we announced previously, there will be no more development or bug
fixes to 1.2.x series. We now recommend all distributions package
    only Scribus 1.3.3.x

The Scribus Team would also like to thank - Anduin.net/Øverby
Consulting and Cardia AS for their continued hosting of all of the
    Scribus websites.

The Scribus Team would also like to thank the many end users,

  • 1.3.3.6 Release

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.3.6. This release is purely a further bug fix release to the recently released 1.3.3.5. This release adds more translation updates, some corner case crash bugs were found and fixed, some fixes for PDF settings and correctness were made as well.

The major addition to this release is the backporting of cmake build support. The older autotools based build system is still the primary build system, in keeping with the stability aims of this release series.

The Scribus Team has been very pleased from our experience testing cmake with the 1.3.4cvs development version and wishes to have as widespread testing as possible on as many platforms. We anticipate using cmake exclusively for 1.3.5.

As we announced previously, there will be no more development or bug fixes to 1.2.x series. We now recommend all distributions package only Scribus 1.3.3.x

The Scribus Team would also like to thank - Anduin.net/Øverby Consulting and Cardia AS for their continued hosting of all of the Scribus websites.
