Project News for FreeLords

  • Tech Demo 4 released.

    We have released the next milestone for public download. The main changes are that cities work properly now (income and production of units, occupation and razing), fighting is a bit more elaborate, though still primitive, the tilesize has been increased to 128 pixels with some new graphics. The unit stats have also been updated in a somewhat coherent fashion.

  • Java Freelords Tech03 released

    We have released the next version of Freelord's Java port, featuring several new features and graphics. It is still not properly playable, though. Another significant change that came up last year is that all player's units now move simultaneously.

    Changes:
    * added preferences dialog
    * various bug fixes
    * commented more code
    * many new graphics
    * implemented seamless drawing of tiles
    * an item dialog
    * gold display on main map
    * implemented crude roads
    * implemented simultaneous movement of all players
    * tons of new graphics, especially unit images

  • Java snapshot released

    We have released a first version of the Java port now. Though it is not really finished and does not make real fun to play, you can get an impression of what has been done yet. The download section is called "Java Freelords"

  • Fork and Switch to Java

    I'd like to announce two things. First, we have abandoned the C++ code and are currently migrating to Java. The main reason was a very convincing first implementation by James Andrews. While this delays the progress somewhat, you might soon see the benefits of this migration.

    Connected to this, Ben Asselstine has taken the C++ code and done a fork. He is currently trying to finish the game in a Warlords II fashion. The project can be found under http://www.lordsawar.com.
