I use debian unstable or testing. I have an ibook G4, powerpc, not x86.
On powerpc, I can't see video embeded in firefox/mozilla window if I
use option noembed=0, audio woks.
I must use noembed=1 to have video in a different window, not embeded.

But your problem seems different because you can't hear the sound.
