Try to restart from a clean point
then it must works as you do above as soon as point 3. use sufficiently
If the problem persist look any error through dmesg,
/var/lib/oprofile/oprofiled.log, after the opcontrol --dump
look if the daemon didn't coredump.
report the contents of ~/.oprofile/daemonrc too please.
