It will only work if the interpreter is blocked on I/O or sleep.
See the javadocs for Thread.interrupt. As far as I can tell, there is
no clean way of interrupting the interpreter. When I asked the
same question some time back, someone suggested calling Thread.stop.
However, that method is deprecated because it can leave the app in
a bad state.
