No what you are experiencing is probably a kernel crash. Can you try
connecting from the console instead of X. If the kernel crashes you
should see the oops message here.
Please also try to install a different windows driver (remove the
currently installed first) and see if that makes any difference. You can
fins links to driver on the homepage.
