Can you run the Check and Repair tool and see if it helps?

[X] Done

Also 'Check&Repair' didn't show  an error, it helped.

listed as her own ancestor.  Trying to figure out what the relationship
should be before I orphan her.

Yes,

DatabaseError: Database error: Legendre, Bertha is defined as his or her own
ancestor

You should cut the link, or duplicate the person.
Gramps does a recursion, and throws up an error to avoid infinite loop.
