I just spent quite some time trying to do what sounds like
a fairly easy task:
Getting firefox to open .mp3 files with beep-media-player.
Turns out this was not easy as expected. First of all I am suprised
and a bit disappointed that there is no way to specify which
plugin/and/or application to use for specific mime types. There is
Edit->Preferences->Downloads:FileTypes, But no way to add new "actions"
Currently I have mplayerplug-in installed which is great for watching
trailers etc, but I really don't want to use it for playback of mp3s for
example. Now it seems that the plugin mimetype associations/actions
overwrite user designations and I'm not able to choose f.ex
beep-media-player. I tried firefox1.5 which ignores the installed
plugins and voila I could choose to use beep-media-player. Back in
version 1.0.7 I now find mpeg3->beep-media-player in the filetypes tab.
However it's still using mplayerplug-in.
Checking the mplayerplug-in docs I tried to set enable-mp3=0 and
'touch'd ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat - with no effect.
I'm using mplayerplug-in 3.05 ( mozilla-mplayer_3.05-1ubuntu1_i386.deb )
Could 3.15 be different in this regard ?
Sorry if this mail got a bit long, too much babbling.. i'm *tired*
