When you edit a story, you see an interface that lets you pick the 
topics associated with that story.
It has arrows like this:

The top/bottom move selections up/down. - removes a selection. + spawns 
a pop-up window that will let you choose topics.

Now, the question becomes, how is your topics and sections setup?

Assuming you installed the optional perl modules and whatnot, slashd 
should be running the topic_tree_draw task for you that would generate

That diagram will show you each topic's relationship to the other 
topics.

If it's not, then you'd do best to post the contents of the following 
tables somewhere so we can see what's going on:

| topic_parents

So what web browser are you using when you're trying to create a story?
Maybe it doesn't work with the topics-popup? Try another.

I've used Safari and Mozilla under OSX just fine with it. I think at 
work I've used ie6 with it too w/o any problems.

If you are unable to add a topic to a story, and you try to save the 
story, I don't know whether it will save or not. But it will 
*definitely* not display itself - it needs atleast one topic 
association.

That's no biggie for the most part. When things are working OK you'll 
see that in your logs.
It's just leftever debug code.

I think I got it working,
thanks, I even now have a topic tree.
I used to have a section and a topic with identical names
I do not know if that created a problem, after putting one in lower cases=20
things went ok.
I have noticed 3 more problems:
1.
When I click on one of my sections it appears empty
with a fake story tittle "Index:" which links to index.pl?section=3D
2.
When I login, I have an error which says I have a circular loop, then if I =
got=20
to the home site I am actually logged in.
3.
I do not receive any daily headlines, and do not see where I can set it up=
=20
again.
If you have any clues about these, I would not mind some help.

I didn't run into any of these with my migration, but here are some suggestions.

Double check the content of the Skins table.  Make sure that the following
fields are reasonable.

 -  nexus  should be the topic id of the nexus topic.

 -  name   Equivalent of the original section name.  This will become the
directory name used for the static content, and the name on the section=
selector on index.pl

 -  title  I think that this is the printable section name that shows on the
web, and in submission boxes, etc.

 -  url   This should be the complete url for the section: 
http://section.sitename.com   without the trailing slash.

 -  hostname   The hostname part of the url   "section.sitename.com"

I've seen things not quite work right when these were not set correctly.  For
example, stories would never drop off the dirty story list after freshenup ran,
resulting in re-rendering the story every minute.

Also make sure that  the variables   mainpage_nexus_tid and mainpage_skid  are
set to the correct topic and skin id from the skins table.

No idea.

That part just worked for me.  Check your logs for what happens when slashd
runs the daily tasks.  There are some variables to set that will enable more
intensive logging, but I'm going to guess that if your skins are messed up, it
might cause other stuff to not work as well.

Odds are this is related to the relationships in your topics. When you 
first switch to section-topics, and you start editting your topics, I 
found this is easy to accidentally do.

Post your topic_tree.png somewhere for everyone to look at it. Also do a

select * from skins;
select * from topic_parents;
select * from topics;

You can look at your topic_tree.png diagram for a circular 
relationship. Depending on how many topics you have, it may be easier 
to look at topic_parents.

I can't say for sure that's where you're getting your error from (grep 
the code for that exact error message to try and find out) but I'd bet 
a few that you need to look at your topics and their parents for a 
sol'n.

The problem is exactly what this message says...  The skin says to display 0
articles on the page.

artcount_min and _max need to be set to a reasonable value.  Defaults are 10
and 30.

It also looks like you don't have the url and hostname set.  Unfortunately
there is no skin editor, so you have to fix this stuff through mysql update
statements.

If you fix the article counts, hostname and url, it might fix the slashd error. 


This next error:

Is not important, but to fix it you make a windows style .ico file 16x16, that
"represents" your site in the bookmarks, and to the left of the URL entry bar

I am sorry to bother you all again,
I have found other "little" problems.
I believe I have fixed my skin table.
However I still get the circular loop problem when using login.pl
(not when using the login box on the index)
If it is a problem with the topic-tree, mine is available at:

Also users and myself are not receiving any messages anymore.
I used to get some stats as well as headlines.
When I check the options of messaging I do not have the headline choice=20
anymore.
