I would add to this that, in more cases than not, they *cannot* be the
same, just because the translation lacks the letter that is used in
English shortcut. You probably won't notice it so much in germanic
languages since there's a lot in common, but it is obvious in languages
that use different alphabets :-)

Completely agreed. The reasonable way to deal with this is to catch all
the things you can and then get the rest from the user feedback :-)
P.S. I apologize for being repetitive and boring, but would anybody like
to contribute to relationship calculator for his/her native language?
Out of 11 languages that gramps supports, there's only 1 rel calc
routine so far :-( Please see if you can help.
