The 2.4.3 UML patch is somewhat buggy.
Some week ago the "latest" version worked quite well in swapless operation
(at least for me), but there apparently is some problems with hangs on boot
in the current version (I haven't yet tried it due to conflicts with some of
my UML patches). Have patience and give it a few days and it should be ready
for use again I think. In the mean time, try booting with
"init=/sbin/sash" or a similar "single-user boot" to at least allow you to
continue your filesystem developments...
Note: There are also issues with using the RH7 gdb for uml kernel debugging
in the earlier uml versions. This is said to be fixed in the
"latest" version.
