I have 16.5 on enigma, I recompiled the kernel with framebuffer support and
OSS audio among other things. I migrated from FreeBSD 4.2/4.5 for Mozilla
alone (silly me), it's the plugin thing. Nevertheless, E. is my only window
manager, however, there is some strange things going on...
After editing ~/.enlightenment/file.menu it consistently takes 2 clicks to
shutdown or restart E. from the menu. The first click was basically
ignored. After regenerating the menus things were fine. XMMS will not use
any theme other than the default regardless of whether they are placed in
/usr/share/xmms/Skins or ~/.xmms/Skins.
No segfaults yet, but I never experiencing anything but joy with E. on
FreeBSD. RH is really driving me mad, they've scripted the hell out of
things and it's just overkill. I spent 2 days undoing environment variables
just to have it "feel" like FreeBSD. As an aside, segfaults were
commonplace no matter what I did when running Gnome on FreeBSD or RH derived
distros 6.0 and beyond (Mandrake, RH, although Slack 7 was okay). I assumed
that maybe it was my hardware (c466, 256, ATI Xpert 98), cuz it can't be
that Gnome just plain sucks can it?
I'm impressed with the speed of enigma, but riddles are abound...

Subject: [e-users] E & menu segfaults
I certainly hope this is not a repost. However, I've spent all morning
scouring the archives, google, newsgroups, and so on, and I've had
absolutely no luck in finding a solution -- or even a similar post -- to
the problem I'm having.
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine turned me on to the fact that you can
run Enlightenment without Gnome (I'm still relatively new to the whole
Linux world). Well, I love it, for the same reasons that people here
have posted. The only problem I have is that sometimes I'll pull up an
app from the E menu and E will segfault, and kick me straight back to
All .xsession-errors says is the normal i/o (gkrellm weather plugin,
program messages, etc) and then the message "Enlightenment caused
Segment Violation (Segfault)..."
This happens on both my AMD Athlon 1Ghz at home AND my PIII/600 laptop.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
