Right. Attached is a patch which should fix this issue -- can you give
it a try? It's got through the first stage of compilation, which is as
far as I can take it, I'm afraid, as I don't have access to an alpha.
Can you let me know if it works (including running tests, if possible
:-), and then I'll clean it up and commit it to CVS?
Two things that worry me: Firstly, that the obvious deftype->def!type
fix didn't work; I can't work out why. Secondly, perhaps we should call
the integer-with-a-bite-out type something more like
unsigned-byte-with-a-bite-out, firstly because it's constructed like an
unsigned-byte and secondly because the (stale) definitions on the sparc
and ppc platforms permitted negative integers, and so if we needed that
type back would be better described as signed-byte-with-a-bite-out.
