it's probably due to lost interrupts from the serial port (due to HDD
or soundcard usage), or due to buffer overruns, when application (mode2)
doesn't respond to codes for a long period of time.
1) look whether your mp3 player has realtime priority, and set it to
2) try to renice mode2 (in shell, you can do
renice -20 $$
before starting mode2 app)
if any of these helps, you are suffering from buffer overruns
3) set 32bit hdd access (hdparm -c 1 /dev/your_disk_device)
4) decrease the sample rate, force mono, use 8bit output
and if it helps, you have problem with interrupts and might have to
find another sound card / driver.
