Please download a current tarball; this issue came up recently, but I'm
not sure whether it's been fixed yet.

ISTR that either StringIO or minidom broke in 2.2 for Unicode but was 
fixed in 2.2.1.  Try upgrading your Python to 2.2.2.

just downloaded and the installed the docutils (Win XP, Python dir is 
"I:\Utils\Plone\Python".

Installing worded fine, but trying to build the Documentations, I 
get:

You must be running Python 2.1; types.StringTypes was added in
Python 2.2.  I've removed that 2.2-specific feature (and another)
from the code, but I discovered an incompatibility in
extras/optparse.py, which I'm trying to resolve.  Either upgrade
your Python (latest is Python 2.3), or you'll have to install
optparse.py from <http://optik.sf.net>.  I recommend upgrading
your Python; there seem to be other problems with the test suite
with Python 2.1.

Also, be sure to use the latest Docutils code:
<http://docutils.sf.net/docutils-snapshot.tgz>.

Resolved in the latest snapshot.  Also removed another
incompatibility in Docutils; fixed.  Get it while it's hot:

 From the Docutils README.txt "Requirements" section:

     To run the code, Python 2.2 or later [#py21]_ must already be
     installed.  The latest release is recommended (2.2.2 as of this
     writing).  Python is available from http://www.python.org/.

     .. [#py21] Python 2.1 may be used providing the compiler package
        is installed.  The compiler package can be found in the Tools/
        directory of Python 2.1's source distribution.

Python 2.1 without the compiler package is OK for general use, except
for the Python Reader package (which isn't functional yet, anyway).
The test suite tests the Python Reader package, so it's expected to
fail with Python 2.1.  If Plone comes bundled with Python 2.1 and
Docutils, the docutils/test/test_readers/test_python/ directory should
be removed.

You can ignore this error; Docutils should work nonetheless.  (The test
fails because it wasn't tested on Windows systems, which use backslashes
instead of slashes as directory separator.)  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello,

I would like to report some failures when using the
alltest.py script. The output of the script with the
failures is in the attached file. I'm running MacOSX 10.3.7,
Python 2.3 (GCC3.3 - Apple). Hope this report will be useful.
