Hmm, seems not, but after applying your patch the build-process fails veen earlier...it fails with the same error but now not for
the eieio directory but already for the common directory!

Looking into cedet-autogen.el: But for me in general it is very mysterious, why and how a patch can result in different behaviors when it is in a codeblock (unless (featurep 'xemacs)...<patch>)... IMHO the patch should not relevant if running with XEmacs?!

Anyway: The cedet-autogen.el-patch is not helpful for XEmacs at least not for my 21.4.13 - maybe there is a difference between this version and your 21.1.14? maybe you should upgrade to 21.4 for your tests because AFAIK this is the current and supported XEmacs-version?!

What is relevant is that the standard file function
`hack-local-variables' search for a "Local variables:" string in the
buffer to locate local variables settings in file trailer.  Something
like:

;;; loaddefs.el ends here

The fact that the body of `cedet-autogen-ensure-default-file'
contains the famous string "Local Variables:" confuses
`hack-local-variables'.

My patch just splits the string to avoid the confusion.
`hack-local-variables' will not find:

Local" " Variables:

I admit that this sounds a bit as a hack :-(

Oops! Sorry I meant XEmacs 21.4.14.  Anyway I don't see what is
failing with your installation.  Could you try this version of `
cedet-batch-update-autoloads' to see if it print some useful message?

I have already found the error - at least a part of:
The files *-loaddefs.el do not end with a new-line. I have added a newline to the loaddefs of cogre, eieio, common, semantic, ede, speedbar and then it works until cogre is compiled, same error as above - very mysteriously...

Unfortunately no :-( That's weird.  I guess you're using XEmacs on
MS-Windows?  Could you try to comment out the following line in
`cedet-autogen-ensure-default-file':

(setq buffer-file-coding-system 'raw-text-unix)

Also are you using cygwin make?  I remember that I had problems with
recursive call of make and /bin/sh which have gone using bash as
default shell:

make EMACS=xemacs SHELL=/bin/bash ...

You can safely ignore those warnings.  They are due to variables
implicitly declared (but that the developer is free to use or not) in
the lambda expression that represents a grammar's semantic action.
The byte compiler of GNU Emacs doesn't take care of variables declared
but not used, so it doesn't issue such warnings.

Maybe could I disable such warnings when byte compiling a grammar with
XEmacs?  Even if I don't like too much that it will hide all other
such warnings too ;-)  Eric any opinion?

Ok, facts:
When i:
- apply your Local variables patch AND
- convert all *.el files to Unix-endings (dos2unix - IMHO something what should be done for each elisp-package because XEmacs-mule can not byte-compile *.el files when in DOS-format!) AND
- add to every *-loaddefs.el file of cedet a newline at the end
then i can compile all except the cogre-stuff: For cogre it fails with the error i sent already to you.

BTW: Do i need more of the build-process or can i at least use all the semantic 2.0 stuff - i do not need cogre???

IMO you should not suppress these warnings but you should mention in the INSTALL that they can savely being ignored.

I definitively don't understand why you had to do that.  The files in
the beta1c tarball have unix line ends (LF).

I don't see why is that needed too.

Anyway, you finally urged me to reboot my laptop on Windows XP (I
didn't do that since I installed GNU/Linux on it, for about a month
;-).

I downloaded the beta1c tarball, just applied my "Local Variables"
patch to cedet-autogen.el, and started the build process with XEmacs.

And it worked just fine!

Notice that I use the native win32 version of XEmacs, not the cygwin
one, and run "make EMACS=xemacs" from the Windows cmd shell (cygwin
tools are in my PATH and of course used).

In case it could help my XEmacs configuration follows.

Hmm, i could also install the native one and test it - but IMHO cedet should also install fine with the cygwin-port of XEmacs - shouldn't it?

So, maybe you should install the cygwin-port of XEmacs too ;-)

But i agree with you: I definitively do not understand some mysterious behavior with my XEmacs here concerning cedet --

BTW: In the meanwhile cedet run with XEmacs except cogre which i can not compile...but i do not need cogre...
FYI: cedet 1.0 beta c seems to work fine with my XEmacs - beside the problems during INSTALL...
