When you find out how to do it, let me know!  mod_gzip broke my slash too.
Do you still run mod_gzip and exclude .pl?

Okay, slashdot does it (right?), k5 does it, others do it. How do I make it
work? I haven't found anything searching google or slashcode.com.. (insert
usual complaint of lack of time).

I'm administering a server with both scoop and slash installed. Modgzip is
now installed, but for some reason, the http POST method is now broken.
Obviously rendering slash inoperable. Before excluding slash from the foul
clutches of this devil module, I ask of you if there are any special
incantations [I.E. build/config modifications] required to make it work?

Any suggestions/experiences/rants out there? I'm fairly skeptical of modgzip
having much of an effect on lower traffic sites.. but could anyone convince
me otherwise?

This was discussed.  Please read all the comments as sometimes the

For Slashdot, Slashcode and use.perl I have it just compressing the
shtml.

I know where mod_gzip needs to be patched so that it can do more of
Slash, I have just not had the time to do it yet.

I figured that excluding everything except static content was going to be the 
answer. Thanks everyone... it was a quick solution. POSTing works now.

I suppose that I'll read slashcode with a little more frequency, since I 
missed the topic in January. I am still interested if anyone's got any 
experience using it with noticeable [positive] results.

Adding the followjng seems to work, rather exclusing everything except
.shtml

mod_gzip_item_exclude reqheader Content-Type:multipart/form-data
mod_gzip_item_exclude reqheader

I have a section named "books"

I'd like a custom index template for this section (as well as a few
others).

so.. I go and create:
Template ID: 170, index, index, books

However, it never appears.. I keep getting index;index;default?  The
same can be said for my custom display and custom dispStory.  What am I
missing?

1. Did you set the SECTION in the template as 'books'?

2. Did you restart apache after you added the template? (did you turn off 
caching via VARS?)
