We have a slight problem:

pvaneynd@...$ LC_ALL=C grep '^Bugid: ' sbcl/*.erg | grep -v Bugid:
Binary file sbcl/excepsit.erg matches
pvaneynd@...$ LC_ALL=C grep --version
grep (GNU grep) 2.4.2

why does grep think that sbcl/excepsit.erg is binary?!

At a first glance and test:

Bugid: :EXCEPSIT-LEGACY-935 interpreted Form: (MAKE-SEQUENCE (QUOTE (STRING 3)) 4)
Should be: TYPE-ERROR
SBCL: "^@^@^@^@"
Why : ""

what about doing "cat ... | grep" instead of "grep ..."?
otherwise we would have to set grep options to depend on the platform.

the best option is, of course, do _all_ processing in lisp.
I wish ansi-test were converted to use unit-test.  do you disgree?

It checks even for that :-(. Sometimes gnu stuff is too 'smart' for
itself...

That is the long-term goal. I just wanted to increase ease-of-use for
people doing releases (like me :-)).

Having side-effect free stand-alone tests would already be nice. Using a
better test-system would then be a SMOP...
