Debian's unstable and testing have these files in zd1211-firmware package.

There seems to be a small problem with such a configuration though: If 
udev is used to manage the devices/events, it seems that having /usr as 
mounted filesystem can cause the loading of the driver to fail, when the 
event is triggered before the mounting of the /usr occurs (e.g., fsck is 
running). I'm sorry if my udev terminology is not correct (I've just 
quickly looked how it works). With hotplug, the coldplug did not work 
(hotplug was ok though), so I upgrade to udev.

The zd1211-source package in Debian is based on the ath.cx driver but it 
is missing some of the latest patches (based on r23). It works for me 
though with the 32char ESSID patch (with 2.6.12).

the atx.cx driver is more statable that sf , (with my device)
(sometimes the driver dead)

the another simple problem is that the driver is not autoup the device (wla=
n0)=20
when load it, you must run ifconfig wlan0 up , first.

AFAIK the Debian driver is based on the zd1211.ath.cx driver so Fernando's
postings probably don't apply.

However, one difference between the Debian and the zd1211.ath.cx driver is
that the Debian driver needs the stick's firmware as an external file.
Perhaps this is the problem (googled a bit - one cause for the "error -5"
problem seems to be problems with the firmware). Don't know how this must
be configured, see the Debian driver's documentation.

I've put the following to my /etc/network/interfaces:

# pre*s for the Longshine
pre-up modprobe -r zd1211
pre-up modprobe -r firmware_class
pre-up modprobe zd1211

# Longshine USB stick
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
   wireless_essid blukakadirupa
   wireless_mode managed
   wireless_key s:blafaseldiraseldbumdibum
   auto wlan0

I've updated my drivers to svnr38 based on
zd1211-source-0.0.0.svnr23-3 available in Debian.
