Could the value of CONFIG_NLS_DEFAULT in the .config file have changed?
I'm not too familiar with samba, but could it or the client be
expecting a certain code page? You can override CONFIG_NLS_DEFAULT with
the iocharset= mount option. Also, do you have CONFIG_JFS_DEBUG set in
.config, and if so, do you get any syslog messages from JFS?
