You never get an email for this even if -f (check for failure of usage 
attributes) is specified. Threshold 0 means that this attribute never fails.

Media_Wearout_Indicator may be somehow connected to these attributes, I 
don't know.

Add '-u -r 233! -R 233!' to the smartd.conf line to enable warning 
emails each time this attribute changes.

Thanks, I've updated smartd.conf on one of what appears to be our 'high 
wear' servers, so should get an email when that figure changes now.

Feature request: does smartmontools support error injection
(for specific attributes, i.e. this one in this case),
to let people determine via a simple test
whether this rather crucial email notification chain actually works?

Might be a very good thing to have implemented...
