Looks great!  You can open up the bottom of the gear to tie in an aspect 
of the OSI logo but that might be overkill and probably a trademark 
infringement :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again (for good measure), the biggest
problem with MH is the number of people who are put off in the first 10mins
when they read on the website -

That's the biggest problem... not the logo...

How many pixels in this logo? Looks like pretty high
resolution...

You should also show it in low-res so we can see how
it will look as a favicon, among others...

I agree with this. But the Github should help this, with the sudden 
burst of interest on bringing the project back, should help as well.

Updating the a new stable, and releasing it would be a good step.

With the graphics in mind, and I know a lot of us have played with it to 
some extent in the past, it would be good, also to get away from a GUI 
that is less "I was new in 1996" to something better.

I am pretty decent with web design and AJAX, but abstracting out the 
XML, or building upon the JSON (my preferred) has been lacking. Both of 
these have stopped me from doing a quick web 2.0 on my build, because I 
don't have the time to reverse engineer what was done, also I lack the 
Perl skills needed to understand all that is being done, and where to 
get it from .

Ok, I took some of the feedback and:

1. Added some color - for variety
2. Added a power symbol to suggest more automation (but the logo is getting busy)

3. I also create a 64x64 bit version so you can see it smaller.  The above one is 256x256

The logo can go pretty much any way.  If any more suggestions I can make more options, and then hopefully put on the wiki (someone tell me how to get permission to edit pages)

I do not consider myself  to be an expert on logo's but I sure hear lots of them talking to me over the years.

Seems like the common thing I hear every time is a good logo needs to show "motion"

Just a thought maybe something can be done to make it look like the gear is moving?
