Ok, if I leave anything out, I'm sure someone will fill in the
The original 'proj-imim' list was hosted by Helmut's university. In
early 2003, Helmut had vanished and it was clear that the list was
going to disappear too, so a new 'PanoTools' yahoo group was created
with the same membership list.
This went fine and was a success, the list eventually had 2500 or so
members. Though the list owner had further plans, including
switching the whole thing to a web-board.
There was a lot of acrimony, the end result was that list ownership
was handed over to Kevin Kratze who ran it without further issues
for a year or so.
Recently there was some more acrimony centering around costs for
hosting the wiki, it's all there in the list archives.
Kevin suggested that an organisation was formed to take control of
the list, this was under way, several new moderators were appointed
and it looked to me that some progress was being made. Then the
original owner re-emerged, somehow took control of the list and
demoted all the moderators, including Kevin.
So now there are two more yahoo lists: 'Panotools-List' for
discussing management issues and 'PanoToolsNG' which has been
adopted by effectively all the previously active members as a
replacement for 'PanoTools'.
It looks like the organisation may still happen in the form of a
'verein' (a Swiss/German term for a non-profit club apparently) and
I expect the wiki will move as part of the same process.
