Hi Steve

The Cortex A8, DM3730-based Overo COMs are not generally available just yet,
so a Gumstix product page has not been posted.

Perhaps you can refer to Texas Instruments for programming information on
their DM3730 processor?

Don will the expansion boards be the same as overo or different  ?

These COMs are part of the Overo series, so they will connect to the same
Overo-series expansion boards like Summit, Tobi, Palo43 etc.

Hi Don,

Why do the "Firestorm" and "Waterstorm" specs state that the COMs support clock speeds of up to 800MHz? I expected the DM3730 based COMs to run at speeds of up to 1GHz. Can you please clarify?

These processors support 1GHz and I've been able to run some at this
speed.  However, I've noticed some instabilities at 1GHz on 'some'
chips hence we're recommending running at 800MHz at the moment.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two issues possibly at play:
1. TI documentation suggests that 1GHz is best supported by the A3
revision of the PMIC chip on earlier revision of the processor.  This
theoretically shouldn't affect the Storm series boards as they use a
recent revision of the processor and we've worked with our suppliers
to get A3 silicon on the PMIC for future builds of the Storm series.

2. Users on different COMs using these processors have reported bugs
with the adaptive body biasing patches submitted by TI to the linux
kernel.  Once these patches are debugged and integrated into the
kernel, all COMs should run at a stable fashion at 1GHz.

Hopefully this answers your question.  I'm certainly interested in
success/failure reports of anyone running at 1GHz.

I seem to be able to run the WaterStorm Com at 1GHz with no problems but was consistantly told not to so I have changed it back to 800MHz. Can you expand on issues others have had so I can confirm if I have those?  Is it ok to set my system back to 1GHz?

If a system has failed at 1GHz for me, it has failed with obvious
core-dumps/seg-faults.  Some have failed in seconds, others in
minutes.  If you can run your system with a recent kernel while
exercising (transfer large files etc.) for a couple hours, I'd
estimate you're pretty safe.

I have added the most recent adaptive body bias patches to my
omap-3.0-pm branch:

After a bit of testing it is clear that even this version of the
patches don't work properly :-(

I will remove them and wait for the next revision.
