This is not strictly a gnuplot issue.
Someone from Octave community is compiling gnuplot binary that
statically links against some libraries (which should be fine) and
dynamically against system libraries. The problem may appear if
gnuplot has been compiled on a newer system (with newer libraries)
than that user is using. (But the problem may just as well appear if
user has newer system.)
This is a problem of gnuplot community only to the extent that gnuplot
community doesn't provide any Mac binaries at all (else Octave could
have simply taken that - hopefully working - binary).
