Because the CLI will always "just work" when you have only one logic
analyzer, and it's attached -- certainly the use case for most people. It
automatically selects the first device if there is no choice. The demo
driver would screw things up, because it's always there. If you forgot to
plug in your LA, or there's some problem with it, you'd automatically get
demo driver output instead. Which is not helpful when you're think you're
debugging some signal of course.
Simply, to use the demo driver always specify it with "-d demo".
