You will only see a desktop version if your running the desktop version,
there is a console only version. When you turn it on hit enter and will take
you to the variables
printenv
setenv (put the environment variables you want here )
saveenv
I have set as DVI for the default display with the wanted resolution.
I have a overo fire and summit, also when it goes to the console have you
tried startx or X ? It could be just not loading the X server properly and
just going in as console first, I have my system boot up this way as I do
not always want a desktop.
