Thanks guys for replying. It's not really important to me to get MP3x to
work - I am just playing around. So since it was written for an old version
of gtk, i think i will give up on it!

Sometime ago we released lame-398-4, a bug-fix release.

The mp3x program was developed using GTK 1.x. I'm not so familiar with
the GTK libraries, maybe it's possible to configure GTK-2 into a
version 1 compatibility mode?
