For me it sounds a bit strange too. I think it is because I read the
English "Draw freely" as an imperative form. So in German and Dutch that
would make "Zeichne frei" and "Teken vrij". Unfortunately, the double
meaning of 'free' is lost in translation :(. Personally, I feel the text
should not be translated to Dutch at all. It is uncommon and strange in
Dutch to translate catchphrases like this.

Good news! I've found a free version of Pushkin font (the script one used in 0.46 screens), called newPushkin (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Pushkin?content=106881).
All the screens (except the original one, since I still don't know if I can change it) are now translated with this font.

fwiw, I agree about better not translating to dutch. Almost anyone 
understands english over here, and any dutch translation will probably 
have an awkward feeling about it.

For the Dutch translation I previously posted on the mailinglist for
translators the suggestion
   "Vrij tekenen"

Personally I think this is a good suyggestion (in Dutch no imperative
is used in the interface, exept when there the user needs to
something; in this case an order would off course be a severe limit of
the users freedom).

Because it would be off-topic, we can have a private discussion on
this issue with the members of the Dutch translation team if there are
further doubts.

Imho this font looks ugly (but a bit better with drop shadow). What
about teams (package t1-teams in debian and derivatives)? Imho splash
looks more consistent with it.

I've no opinion about it. The translations use (new)Pushkin because the author wanted to reuse the 0.46 font. Thus I won't change it except if Johan asks me to.
