I may misremember, but i don't think SB-SIMPLE-STREAMS has ever worked
Opinions: should I commit this despite the freeze?
It makes the Windows build less brittle wrt. the toolchain, but
possibly affects the quality of these functions negatively (if nothing
else, the lisp-side %hypot is not smart about avoiding over/underflows
like the libc version should be.) I'm inclined to say yes, but I don't
use Windows, so my opinion should not count for too much...
