I tried to use smartd and smartmontools. Please read below: From: mark@...:~$ tail -n25 /var/log/syslog May 17 09:57:33 Lexington-19 smartd[6901]: Device: /dev/sda, opened May 17 09:57:33 Lexington-19 smartd[6901]: Device /dev/sda: ATA disk detected behind SAT layer May 17 09:57:33 Lexington-19 smartd[6901]: Try adding '-d sat' to the device line in the smartd.conf file. May 17 09:57:33 Lexington-19 smartd[6901]: For example: '/dev/sda -a -d sat' This is Ubuntu Hardy Heron v. 8.04, the drive being monitored is: Maxtor, 320 gig, PATA, model # STM3320620A L01Y300 (or STM303004N1AAA-RK) I don't know much about computer "guts", which line do I remove the "#" sign from to get it to run? _________________________________________________________________ Give to a good cause with every e-mail.
