S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring Tools

I tried to use smartd and smartmontools. Please read below:

This is Ubuntu Hardy Heron v. 8.04, the drive being monitored is:

Maxtor, 320 gig, PATA, 

model # STM3320620A L01Y300 (or  STM303004N1AAA-RK)

I don't know much about computer "guts", which line do I remove the "#" sign from to get it to run?
