Summary: Inconsistent Cut/Paste key bindings on OS X
Initial Comment:
Greetings.
I'm using pre13 on OSX 10.4.11. There are inconstancies in OS X cut/paste key bindings, as reported several times in the past and erroneously closed IMHO, read on.
After some research, it appears that Cut/Paste key bindings are defined by the Swing look and feel.
* If I use Mac OS X L&F, everything works as expected. (Unfortunately, said look is ugly. I prefer to use metal.)
* If I use CDE/Motif L&F the CMD keys works in the main Jedit editor window, and *no* key combinations work in the Find window (and similar windows).
* If I use Metal L&F, the CMD keys work in the main Jedit editor window, and the ctrl keys work in the Find window (and similar windows).
So, I have three different look and feels and three different behaviors. To brush this off as "Apple's problem" seems a bit obtuse. Especially since 1 of the 3 offered choices doesn't even work.
The docs explaining this are here, scroll down to Accelerators (Keyboard Shortcuts):
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Java/Conceptual/Java14Development/07-NativePlatformIntegration/NativePlatformIntegration.html
Suggestions:
* Offer an improved look and feel for OS X which correctly handles key bindings as the current look is hurting. Maybe Quauqua (http://www.randelshofer.ch/quaqua/index.html)? Maybe improve the current look to make it look more like metal?
* Unbind CMD keys in Jedit window and force the user to work ctrl everywhere to offer some sort of consistency.
* Your suggestions here?
Thank you for your time.

PS: A few more comments after testing pre14:
* Inconsistent Cut/Paste key bindings on OS X remains
* Using Mac OS X native look and feel is significantly more sluggish than
metal on my iMac G5. Also clunky i.e. not as polished
* Tango icons with metal looks great!
Metal/Tango look and feel with consistent Cut/Paste key bindings would be
fantastic.
Thank you for your time.
