Plone is a great CMS, but has a steep learning curve, and is python-based,
using Zope as it's Application Server. It's worth the time spent learning
it, but I wouldn't think it's a "quick-fix". Even though I prefer Java,
Plone is the best CMS I've used yet.
I've heard great things about Alfresco's CMS, but, again, is quite
heavy-weight, and the learning curve may be a bit steep.
What about LifeRay? It's Java-based, has a good CMS, a plethora of Portlets
to choose from, and works out of the box.
