Hi Simon,

That's very nice to hear!  We are just in the process of issuing a new 
release of smartmontools, so I will ask you to wait a few more days.  Then 
your code can go into the next experimental release.  Meanwhile, please 
send me a sourceforge username so I can add you.

Could you please correspond with Keiji Sawada about this?  He has 
contributed and maintained the Solaris port of smartmontools for a number 
of years, and I would like to be sure that he approves of these changes! 
But I expect that he will be enthusiastic about having some 'inside help'.

Hi Sawada,
This is a part of SFW (Sun freeware) project to enrich Solaris with many 
frequently used tools and applications. As you know, smartmontools can 
run smoothly on Solaris. So this porting contains only a small 
modification to take advantage of SMF, a uniform mechanism to manage 
service on Solaris.

Hi Simon,

I'm very glad for your offer!  Unfortunately I'm not
familiar with SMF manifest, I could not play with it ;-)

If I recognize correctly, SMF is sophisticated version of
init scripts. So I imagine that some files will be added
to smartmontools package (like a SPEC-file for RedHat).

Anyway, I think there is no problem if modifications are
compatible with other platforms (including earlier
releases of Solaris).  I'm looking forward to seeing
your works!

I have been using sfw stuff for long years as
Solaris user ;-)
