Hello Marc, and JC! saluton Dmitri!
Brief presentation: I'm a software localizer/translator, based in Montreal, generally using DVX and Catalyst in a corporate environment. I'm always curious and trying to stay up to date about all kinds of language-related tools, and I've been following OmegaT's evolution over time.
A few weeks ago, somehow prompted by JC's call for review of his newly updated French UI translation, I felt the urge to finally try my hand at OmegaT, see how it works. I started with a small freeware translation project, namely the Snap Backup UI (a short properties file) from English into Esperanto.
For the record, I found one significant *advantage* of OmT over DVX: I can translate into Esperanto without any jumping through hoops. In DVX, the language list comes from the OS (Windows in my case), and Esperanto is not listed, so I have to pretend I'm doing Maltese or whatever. Then I need to make sure I have some unusual code pages installed, and switch to a different keyboard layout (Estonian!) to be able to actually type Esperanto in DVX.
For the initial project I had used OmT 1.4.2. This morning I felt like experimenting some more, installed the 1.4.6RC, and loaded OmT's current English Bundle.properties against Dmitri's OmegaT_1.4.5_UI_eo.tmx to see how much work updating his translation would amount to. Started playing, was pleased with the new features and enhancements introduced after 1.4.2, started fixing typos here and there, translated the new strings, couldn't stop.
So I am now pleased to report that the *Esperanto* Bundle_eo.properties is now complete, as of the current source bundle from 1.4.6.RC. (I will send it to Maxym, and we'll see?)
I hope this is not too much going against the rules! I wasn't planning to perform this OmT localization project, but I sure did it after all. Maybe I can deliver the Instant Start, later this week. As for the on-line help, if Dmitri could provide the TMX for what he already translated, I could possibly update the Esperanto help set for 1.4.6 too.
