I tried re-downloading optware, then running:
echo LDSO_RUNPATH=y >> /home/slug/optware/sources/libuclibc++/.config
and then reflashing the Gumstix with the .jffs2 file, copying over ipkg, then installing php again, however got the exact same problem.
