Gregg,

 	Very Cool!!  Looks like I will be looking into setting 
up zoneminder to replace my "motion" installations.

 	I am in the process of adding UPB PIM support directly into MH 
right now as well.   I have been away from MH development for a while and 
was wondering how I get SVN commit access?

I'd be very interested in any additional "convenience" methods that you
or others think might apply.  In particular, I'm looking for additional
ways to use other non-zoneminder information to reduce false alarms.

the ability to dynamically enabled/disable ZoneMinder zones.

 	Just committed a new library into Misterhouse that adds cursory 
support for the UPB Powline Interface Module. (./lib/UPBPIM.pm)   It 
doesnt appear to do a whole lot now, but I have lots more updates 
coming in the next few weeks.

 	Right now it only supports retrieving the firmware version from 
the device attached.  Seems trivial but took me a while to get there (I 
have been away from Perl for a very long time)

Summer is over, so seems we have no excuse to delay the next release.  I 
have not been real active in code development, but many others have had 
lots of updates since April, so seems it is time.

So hows about we try to get new features in within the next week, then 
those of us running off of SVN can get things tested and we can get the 
next release out around the end of the month.

Matt, can you merge in Device_Item branch merged in, then I and others 
can get that tested also.

Another world-beater I am sure (groan.)

You aren't ready for a release.  I can say that with authority as I wrote
99% of the new code (and rewrote a lot of the old BS.)  A lot of it is still
undocumented.  And, of course, you and the other SVN dolts have locked the
repository.  I guess this will be the typical arbitrary release of years
past.  Good idea to release it without the email and IR updates.  Those
following at home should realize that these two critical areas of mh are
botched beyond recognition (and have been for years.)  I rewrote both (just
like sound, volume, display, X10, AP news, Internet Weather, Robosapien,
long file names, responses, IM, FroggyRita, Beta Brite, chimes, widgets, tk
interface, Eliza, DVD info, MH release info, Weather Items, weather upload,
event sounds, security, motivational quotes, top ten list, voice commands,
generic items, Winamp, etc., etc.)  BTW, Winamp was just a patch (I recently
rewrote that to use the SDK and xAP/xPL, no httpq or WACtrl kluges
required.)  Apparently all of that made certain "mh geniuses" uncomfortable.
Now they are attempting to block the rest of it.  The release is meaningless
until my "final" updates and documentation are in place.

On the email, I am reminded of the security system in a Simpson's episode
that goes like:

"Emergency.  Dialing police..."
"Busy signal.  Shutting down..."

Something like that.  The POP3 client in mh does this all day long.
"Couldn't get through to server, etc."  "Giving up."  You lose all n minutes
worth of messages.  Worthless.

On the IR, just worthless.  After I fixed a bug in the USB-UIRT SDK (the
thing that Girder is based on), I rewrote the entire mh IR layer.  Universal
remotes beat the hell out of PalmPads (especially if you have more than 8
discrete commands!)  I have hooks that tell user code when a button is
pressed and when it is released.  You could write an mh video game with it.
Mh now makes Girder (and uICE and the others) obsolete.  At least my version
of mh does.  Now if a certain weasel will get out from under my feet,
perhaps I can get some of this stuff checked in...

Hope you all enjoy the new X10 scene support!  The underlying packages are
from 2005.  I submitted them last winter (to Bruce Winter) and they never
got checked in.  Who knows why?  I didn't care, so I just started uploading
everything myself.  Then this Matt Williams idiot jumped in the way.  Funny
I don't see him actually removing any of this stuff.  He just wants to take
credit for it.  Good luck!

Monte (and others who feel likewise), sorry about today's posts. 
David's moderation flag somehow inadvertantly got reset today.  It 
should be set again now.  I thank you and others for resisting in faning 
the flames today.

I've been working with David offlist, trying to convince him that his 
best course of action is to create a new project to load his code to, 
along with his own mailing list.  We had tried a branch within the mh 
SVN repository, but sourceforge currently does not allow for access at 
only the branch level to allow that to work.

David can do good work, but not when working with others in a group 
mode.  His best work is done when he works on his own, so hopefully he 
can get his own project setup and get back on track and start producing 
again.

 He claims to be such a smart boy. I'm sure he can figure out how to
check out the entire SVN tree. Why in the world would he need something
as primitive as SVN anyway. I'm sure he's written something much more
sophistocated many, many years ago... in COBOL.

to torture my house and my mh machine with new and interesting features!

Me too.

Until he release his own code he should stop flaming others work.
It was build years back when there was no Ajax, XHTML, and table support was
the only thing there.

Beneath the interpersonal style issues evident in the DJM posts is it
possible that we do have a real issue due to the complexity of the core =
of
the software that has evolved (probably beyond what Bruce envisioned =
when he
started) which may now not be optimal for the future of MrHouse? Most
commercial code runs into that problem - and it's usually fixed by a
simplified "core" architecture release, and then major module groups =
that
sit on the core. (All the user go - hey release 5 has nothing new! But =
then
release 6,7,8 come out quickly, at high quality, and with lots of =
features.)

Is it possible we have reached that point with Mrhouse? - do we need to
consider a rewrite of the core focusing on creating a central engine =
that
will support the other features we write but is modernized to the new
technology available, is very efficient, beautiful in it's coding
simplicity, and using a standardized interface to other modules (maybe =
using
XAP)? Then we could support different User Interfaces to that core -
supporting what we have like IA5, third party (plutohome) etc. We could =
have
some kind of plug and play into that core object bus to add support for
various types of new hardware interfaces and technologies ....

If the answer is yes - then who would possibly have the time to tackle =
that?
Most of us do this to add some new features that are evident in what =
Mrhouse
can do rather than how well it runs inside - I don't think there will be =
a
long line of volunteers - but I could be wrong.

Then again, it is a pity isn't it, that there are capable individuals =
whose
talent is lost to the group because they make the overhead in working =
with
them equal to or greater than their potential contribution. Once I ran
across a software developer who could contribute about 5 times what his
peers could do - problem was you could only put him on projects that
required 5 person months of effort in a month (by himself) as soon as =
you
needed 6  person months of effort and added a person the output fell to
something like 1.2 person months per month from the two of them.=20

Do we have such a opportunity for a focused project now in MrHouse? =
(Those
that understand the architecture better than me would have to speak up - =
I
don't feel knowledgeable enough to state - only question). Could there =
be a
stream created to allow such a core development - where it can clearly
succeed or fail on its own merits - where an individual could be given
rights to update as fast as he can code - and when he says it's ready we

That's not good!  Please take a look at &set_interface in X10_Items.pm (line
106).  There are four commented-out debug statements that will help me to
figure out why this is happening to you.  Please uncomment them.  Also,
could you please add a debug line right after the initial "my ($self..."
line (line 107) like this:

print "set_interface called with interface=$interface\n";

As a quick fix for your problem in the meantime, can you also locally modify
 line 102 from:

$self->{interface}->add($id,$state);

to

$self->{interface}->add($id,$state) if defined $self->{interface};

{interface} really should be defined for all items, so this is just a
temporary band-aid.

Jim, you bring up some interesting points.  There is always room for
improvement and I'm glad that you've started this discussion.

As you know, the development style of misterhouse is akin to a hobby project
shared by many people with varying backgrounds and coding skills.  This
style has many advantages in that we have a lot of great people contributing
code, new features are implemented quickly and bugs are quickly fixed.  Of

I would make the case that the true core of misterhouse isn't the problem.
In simplest terms, the core simply "eval"s the code it is asked to run every
few milleseconds.  Misterhouse is already modular to some extent.  I believe
that the three places that need some work are: (1) the most heavily used
modules, like the HTTP server and the X10-like interfaces, (2) increasing
modularization and (3) standardization.

(1) Because these modules are so heavily used, they have been the target of
many small updates leading to complexity.  A clean-up of these modules would
be a good place to start.

(2) There is a lot of code in places where it shouldn't be.  Either within
mh/bin/mh itself or misplaced within modules.  Breaking some of this code
into separate libraries/code files would definitely benefit tracking down
bugs and introducing new features.

(3) Misterhouse has inherited PERL's oft-quoted benefit and curse of there
being many ways of accomplishing the same thing.  I'm not talking about
coding styles but rather the fact that we don't have a documented way of
writing a module.  E.g. how should global variables be named and how should
a module be cleaned up being loading.  Some work in these particular areas
was attempted this summer but it suffered from not having things written down.

Yes, this is a real problem, especially in a group of volunteer hobbyists.
If the project stops becoming fun, we lose valued members and in our
community, all members are considered valuable.

The mechanisms for such a setup are definitely there and we recently tried
such an effort this summer.  Unfortunately, things didn't work out in this
particular case.

If anyone ever wants to implement what I would term major changes, then the
process is to create a branch.  That way, the developer can make as many
updates as they like and merge in trunk changes if they don't interfere with
their own changes.  The trunk stays stable and the branch is available for
testing when the developer feels the time is right.  If there is agreement
that the branch is successful, then we merge the branch back into the trunk
and it becomes The Misterhouse.

The key though, is to clearly communicate why the branch is being created
and what the benefits will be in the end.  If communication is poor, you
don't get buy-in from others (super important) and you get duplication of
effort.

My final comment is that starting an effort to clean up misterhouse is a
good idea.  Before any work starts, however, we need to get agreement from
those interested as to the priority of each task.  As well, once/if we have
 a plan, we should use a mechanism like the wiki to keep track of each task.

I'll amen to all of this. I don't agree with Mr Mark's attitude or way 
of dealing with people on this list, but I am hoping to see his changes 
get made somehow / somewhere and get be kept up to date by features that 
would make it into the normal truck. I know that with MythTV they 
created several branches for the Google Summer of Code and they did not 
have any problems keeping the branches up to to date with changes. I see 
svn updates all the time with 'resync to trunk'.

setup where it all gets cat'd together by a parser and specially
recognized pieces get pulled out of the main loop for initialization
purposes and that it all runs in the same namespace is confusing and
error prone. When I worked on the rrd modules to get them to work
with the new rrdtool. A piece of code I never touched would work
or not depending on if you had another piece of code enabled because
the other "module" pulled in a library which changed the namespace
for unrelated code.

It seems like the mh parser couldbe modified to convert the existing
code to an object format where the init code for a piece of code
was in say an init() method and the main loop code in a separate method(s)
(methods if there were separate entries for say "each iteration",
"every minute", etc.) In that case each piece of code could be
modularized so that interference would be reduced and I think it'd
make the code easier to read and understand.

Hi Tom, a minor break through has just occurred thanks to Bruce
Perens (yes that Bruce Perens :-). Bruce found a way to use libusb
to talk to the USB PLC. I'm about to get working on some code as
my CM11A no longer behaves! I won't be too fast as I'm in the
middle of another project (but not a book). I have tried out the
code yet and I haven't but anything to interface it with MH.

Hi All,

 	I just committed a new version of the UPBPIM.pm that supports 
actually sending raw UPB commands now (And pretty much all other 
functionality with the PIM Device)  If anyone has UPB devices on this 
list I would like to hear from you on what functionality you would like 
to see initially supported.

There isnt a whole lot left to do as the protocol is very elegantly 
simple (  noise / retranmissions / acknowledge are all generally handled 
by default settings of the PIM and can be tweaked with register commands 
in the UPBPIM.pm module)

Functionality Todo List <so far>:
- Create device object (UPB_Device?) to enable the traditional MH 
'set $kitchen_light ON' command instead of the raw syntax below
- Create link object (UPB_Link?) to enable link/scene behavior.
- Add items.mht support for PIM, Device, and Link Object
- Handle other UPB Transmitters on the bus.

Everyone can tackle a rewrite..  One peice at a time.  Most people 
involved with MH are given the ability to update the code as fast as they 
can.. (I am)

I rewrote a couple parts of the MH system one at a time, HOWEVER, instead 
of replacing the existing code causing instability, I made it optional:

I thought the caller ID handling could have been vastly improved, so I 
wrote a whole new engine for processing that (and in the process 
developed a Telephony system -- Works quite well for those folks still 
using a stargate)   Was it broken in the first versions?  Yes!  Did it 
interfere with those people using the original callerid.pl implementation? 
No!  If your optional rewrite has value, people will gravitate towards it 
and the original one will be deprecated.

I thought the X10 objects were/are overburdened with logic that is not 
re-usable (What about PCS/UPB/Zware/Insteon/ZigBee/xAP/ etc).  Instead of 
re-writing those objects, I created optional new ones Light/Motion/Presence/Photo/Occupancy.
Do they interfere with the original X10 objects? No!  AFAIK, most people 
still happily use the X10 objects X10_MS, etc..

I am currently adding UPB protocol support.  I am doing this without even 
touching any existing code in the MH repository so far, and will integrate 
into the Light/Motion/Presence/Photo/Occupancy objects without any 
modification to those classes as well.

I think everyone in this project encourages improving / refactoring / etc 
parts of misterhouse, but we all need to be careful with backward 
compability.

I would really like to start implementing PerlUnit testing.  If anyone has 
any experience with PerlUnit, please speak up so I can start getting that 
implemented into my new code. ( I dont have a lot of "pro" perl 
experience)

    I have not actually taken a serious look at DJM's code. But the
fundimental issue is the interpersonal style.
Possibly combined with the attitude that somehow he owned large hunks of
the code.

    There are lots of things about MH I would like to change. But until
I am willing to do the work to make them happen,
 I will mostly refrain from offering sweeping remarks. Regardless,
maligning the existing code base - particularly specific parts
is not far from maligning individuals - though DJM had no problems
maligning both.
    Everyline in MH was put there by somebody. The skill level of
contirbutors varies all over. Regardless, they were all trying to solve
problems, and
    the code would not likely have gotten in if it did not make things
atleast a little better than before.
    Anyone who feels compelled to replace someone else's work is free to
put together a better solution - but that does not involve maligning the
original author.
    If the replacement is really better we will probably all move to it.

    If I had infinite time, I would probably be looking at a major
rewrite of much of MH from scratch. Despite my initial oposition,
    I am more seriously interested the the
    XML-RPC code that was discussed/submitted ? recently. I have not
looked at it and I as I recall, it is fairly minimal right now. But I
would like to see the core of MH
    evolve into an engine to inpliment and manage objects, and
everything more external. but if I am going to do that, it may take a
long time. And if I don't I get a smaller voice in
    what happens.

    But right now I am way too  busy trying to start over as an
independent software consultant after 22 years as part of a failed
family business.
    I need projects to pay the mortgage, and there is little time for
fun things like rewriting MH.

with DJM was not with any of those - though certainly

If his contributions were a fraction as good as he claimed and he was

all hope the aggregate itch scratching results in something better for

I think we have all seen a good example of what happens when you try to
force things recently.

Just thought I would chime in to say that I updated to SVN:900 (from 
2.98!), migrated my entire house platform to it (Occupancy, proxies, and 
everything) and for the most part everything is working well.  Its been 
well over a year since I touched my codebase.

It was a pleasure to spend the day ripping out X10/Insteon switches for 
UPB, simply changing a few lines in the MHT, and everything was up and 
running again.

A special thanks to Gregg/Kirk/Others? for taking care of the Lighting / 
Occupancy code while I was out!

For those working towards a stable version, my sincere gratitude goes out 
to you all!!

My X10RF motion sensors are absolutely horrendous when it comes to 
reliability of receiving a transmitted signal. Does anyone have an idea on 
obtaining relatively inexpensive wireless motion sensors that are 
actually reliable?  Something that comes with an alarm system that can be 
interface / "hacked" to provide DIO's etc.  Or even wireless transmitters 
that I can wire a TTL/CMOS signal to from existing MS13s.

I noticed Z-wave has some, but at $70/sensor that seems a bit much.

I've had fabulous luck with those MS by sticking a 9" piece of coat 
hanger over them. I've used this on all my exterior sensors, and it's 
made a huge reliability diff.

I peeked at the code a while back, intending to add to
it in a small way. It seemed to me that I would have
to do a little bit of reverse engeneering before
understanding where and how I could poke new code into
it. Being quite busy, I put it off for later. Maybe I
would just write my own little program that would be
less ambitious than MrHouse, but would do the job I
want it to do in a very austere but quicker to code
way.

I feel the first thing that could be done with MrHouse
is to have someone familiar with the code draw up the
high level structure of mrHouse, using any/no
methodology you want. The high level functions of each
module could also be identified. There would be two
immediate benefits from this:

1- It would help programmers get in the code faster
right now by revealing the main mechanisms of the
program

and

2- It would start to define a structure to the code,
beginning a process of stranderdizing the code for
future additions.

Anytime a programmer comes in afresh to mrHouse, he
either has to draw up mentally, if not on paper, this
structure, at least partially, or else he is patching
the code haphazardly, thereby possibly downgrading the
code structure and making it harder to add more code
later on.

At some point the code will become so complex and
disorganized by successive patches that the difficulty
of adding more code might possibly grow exponentially,
at which point the code will start to stagnate. The
project will then be at risk of choking to it's death.

Graphing a map of the present state of mrHouse might
shine a useful light on the code, stimulating new life
to it. It could also be used when making proposals to
future changes.

All this could be done on a wike page.

Maybe all this is already started and nothing has yet
led me to it?

What flavor of Linux are you installing?   Most Linux installations have 
the "Festival" package already included with them. It is easy enough to 
get the binary packages (ie if you are using Fedora / RedHat a simple 
"yum install festival" will do the trick.

We have most of the new features in and pretty well tested now.     The 
current plan is to freeze on new features being added this weekend, 
accept any bug fixes this next week, then release 2.103 next weekend.

If you have any new features to get in, SVN them today, or send them to 
me or any other willing SVNer.

I "joined" the wikispaces web site and asked for edit
priviledges to the misterhouse/InternalWorkings space
in the hope of contributing something.

Although I don't know Perl nor the MisterHouse code
much, I  am in computer science (very old school) and
I would expect to be able to pick up things fast
enough to be of some help in the documentation of
things "internal" - maybe even some coding eventually.

My main (personnal) objective is to have a good enough
grasp of how the misterHouse code is set up so as to
be able to remove modules/code I will never use in
order to have a minimalistic version on a weak
computer (which will run Linux in order to use the
WISH driver for the Powerlinc/serial). My other option
being to write a small app which would just do basic
X10 programming thru my Powerlinc serial interface.
Considerably less functionnality, but maybe quicker to
get going?

Anyway I think this documentation would be of help to
all the misterHouse contributors and I have enough
interest in it to contribute something, whatever I do
otherwise in parallel to that.

I have just ordered a RCS TU16 (UPB based) thermostat to replace my x10 ver=
sions and I'd like to add support to MH for it.

I'd like to ask your advice on how the best way to implement the unit.

I'd guess as a start that it would be a new class derived from you UPB_Devi=
ce class.

I'm going to try to get UPB extension protocol from RCS to attempt to make =
this work just like the x10/serial based thermostats.

Depends on how they implemented it.

If it works like the X10 unit then you may have to create a new type of 
UPB_xxxxx class and monkey with the UPBPIM.pm class as well. Thats if they 
assign multiple addresses to different functions, etc (lets hope they 
didnt do that).

If it works like a typical UPB device, then hopefully it will be a simple 
derivation of the UPB_Device class and you will have commands within the 
UPB packet to do different things.  I implemented all known UPB device 
commands in UPB_Device, so this may be a simple wrapper to translate 
thermostat commands to generic UPB commands.  I am hoping they implemented 
the "GOTO:x" command as setting x temperature, etc.

If you can forward me the protocol docs, I can take a quick peak and 
determine which route would be best.

What I will email you (off list) is the installation doc that has a small b=
it in there about UPB.  Only mailing off list as I don't know how the list =
will handle attachments.

What is mentioned is they have two ways of using UPB to communicate to the =
thermostat:

1 link mode: using link address as predefined options/commands
2 message mode: this is the extended protocol they referenced, but no addit=
ional info in the installation doc.

get. My builder is about to put them in and wanted to know if I had a

I've been using an HAI Omnistat for a couple of years.  It's fine
programmable thermostat on its own, and it's got a serial interface that
allows it to be controlled from mh.

I have the RCS TR40.  I've had it for a few years.

It has a nice big display and allows display of the outdoor temperature 
(which I download from the net, but you could retrieve this from an RCS 
outdoor sensor or your own weather station)
It also has a message notification light which can be used for anything 
you want.  I use the light to notify me when the mail arrives.
The only thing I don't care for is.. The back light turns off after a 
few seconds of use and only turns on with a local button press.  It 
would be nice if the light would turn on with a remote call so I could 
see it across the room, but I just have the temperature display on my TV 
using YAC clients for my media center and Tivo.

I've got an RC-80, which works fine for single zone heat and cooling.
There are other models that work with heat pumps.  Best bet is to check
the HAI website for details of the models and their capabilities.

Jason, this is probably more for you, but the responses can help the whole 
list.

I am unsure of a few things when setting up the UPB interface in MH.

In the example area of UPBPIM.pm, you have the password as what appears to 
be a decimal number; however, in your .mht sample from a hwile back you have 
it as a hex nvalue: which one is correct?

Also, in looking at the code to figure this all out, your example for a few 
of the entries for the mh.ini file is not used (that I could tell) and so 
you might want to remove it and put the .mht example there instead.

The next question is related to UpStart and the PIM itself.  I went through 
the UpStart and got a single device configured and I could find out the 
network number that was picked for me and the password.  I could also find 
the deviceID for the lamp module  I configured.  But, I could not find the 
deviceID for the PIM itself.  do you know where I can find this?

Hopefully I'll get the new thermostat hooked up this weekend and can begin 
the task of adding support forit in MH.  The thermostat is the TU16 from RCS 
that supports UPB.

I think you can pass in either.  Perl does an implicit conversion on 0x003

Yes.  Sorry.  I think I do pull the serial port, but that is it.

AFAIK, the device ID of the PIM doesnt need an ID.  I just set mine to 
something arbitrary and out of the way.

Im writing a driver for the WGL sprinkler system as well.  I was hoping to 
have better progress than I have, but have been delayed due to family 
issues.

Hello All,

I hope no one was waiting on this module as it has taken me quite a while t=
o get it going.

After many trials and returns for newer rev boards, I finally have a workin=
g module for the UPB RCS Thermostat.

I checked in the module this evening; however, I have not done any user cod=
e for it yet.  And testing is extremely limited to my environment/needs.

(my apologies for the roughness of the following documentation)


MHT method of creating the object:
UPBT, Thermostat, myPIM, 231, 5

The package has methods for retrieving the current temp, retrieving/setting=
 heat/cool setpoints and retrieving/setting the mode

Methods:
$Thermostat->temp # reads current indoor temperature
$Thermostat->outdoor_temp  # reads outdoor temperature if there is a outdoo=
r sensor installed; if not present, 191 will be returned

$Thermostat->heat_sp(<value>)  # retrieves the current heat setpoint, if a =
value is passed, the heat setpoint becomes this value

$Thermostat->cool_sp # same as heat_sp except it is for the cool setpoint

$Thermostat->mode(<value>) # retrieves the current operating mode, if a val=
ue is passed, the thermostat is set to that mode; valid modes are: off, hea=
t, cool and auto (no validation is present for values yet)

There are most definitely bugs:
1. I cannot get the @modes array to behave as I expect it to.
2. I don't have it updating state/state_now methods (not sure what I would =
have it be for maintaining state)
3. no parameter checking
4. I don't know how to do two's compliment for getting negative temperature=
 readings (so if your indoor/outdoor temperature is a negative number, this=
 module won't capture it correctly until this is fixed)
5. the rest sort of escapes me at present

Please make improvements as you see fit.

I'm looking to add more motion and door/window sensors to my MH setup. I'm
looking for advice/recommendations/experience/biased opions/etc on the best
way to go... I was thinking of going with the X10 Hawkeye motion sensors and
the DS10A door sensors. Not sure about the RF interface though... Anybody
got a preference over the W800RF32 or the CM15A, or something else?

I don't have a preference because I have never used the CM15A, but the
W800RF32 has been running like a champ for almost a year at my house. I am
very happy with it.... I also am using the Hawkeye motion sensor, for an
inexpensive unit it has worked quite well.

I'm testing a TR16 (rs485) using RCS's windows "Control Program" and notice
a couple of things that I had questions:

1) Does the TR16 NOT support a 7-day schedule uploaded to it? (I can
configure one in the Control Program software, but then it always seems to
revert back to its defaults). Or is the assumption under MH that just we let
it set the thermostat to whatever we want based on the conditions we program
for?

2) Has anyone intergrated logging data from the stat into MH's RRD? (I'm
interested in logging stat temp and runtime).

3) Has anyone created there own HVAC control system using 1-wire temp
sensors for input and weeder board controlled relays for heater\ac\blower
control? Anyone THAT brave?

Hands down winning by far is the W800RF32 - more expensive but great for
three reasons
A) much better RF reception
B) removes the RF->powerline->misterhouse path and replaces with a
RF->Misterhouse path reducing X-10 collisions and doubling response =
speed!
C) the W800RF32 can receive X-10 security item signals - so even if you =
are
not planning on using them for a security system they are inexpensive =
items
for using for telemetry.

If you search the old group items you will find lots of joy from people =
that
moved from X-10 wireless receivers to the W800RF32.

If you have the choice - money to buy the W800RF32, serial interface (or =
usb
to serial converter) to connect it into, there is really no decision to =
make
- go the W800RF32 route.=20

Watch out for the RF house codes to relay provision parameter when you =
do
the setup, and if you are on unix, make sure the security settings for =
the
additional serial (or usb) port are set so the user running Misterhouse =
can
write to the port.

I don't have a preference because I have never used the CM15A, but the
W800RF32 has been running like a champ for almost a year at my house. I =
am
very happy with it.... I also am using the Hawkeye motion sensor, for an
inexpensive unit it has worked quite well.
