Does it help if you try restoring into Virtualmin 3.48 or 3.49 ?
2.60 is a *really* old version that probably has many many bugs..

Hello All,

I upgraded the Virtuamin server to Virtualmin 3.49 and now I get a 
listing that incorporates all the mail accounts, lists the aliases as 
'disabled', but not all of them. Some of the domains appear to have 
restored correctly.

Here are the series of events that got me here:
(The whole point here was to upgrade the OS of this mail server, so 
complete rebuild!)

1) scheduled backup of all domains into single .tar.gz under 
Virtualmin 2.60, rsynced to backup server
2) Rebuilt new OS (CentOS 5), installed latest Webmin, Usermin, Virtualmin 3.39
3) Attempted restore of Virtualmin backup. makemap failures in the 
virtuser table.
4) uninstalled Virtualmin 3.39, installed Virtualmin 2.60, 
re-attempted backup restore.
5) new errors with vitusertable, still failed restore.
6) dissected virtualmin.tar.gz backup into individual domains (24 in 
all). recreated individual .tar.gz for each domain.
7) restored individual domains with failures. makemap virtuser failures.
8) manual restoration from rsynced backups: /home directory with all 
domain and user structures.
9) manual restoration of /etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/shadow, /etc/mail/*
10) upgrade Virtualmin to Virtualmin 3.49, recheck/reverify configuration.

* NOTE: Quotas were setup under old system. They are not yet setup 
under new one. Is this the problem? Can I go back and setup quotas now?

Mail accounts are working. Aliases are not.

Any help appreciated.

Hi all,

I have something strange going on here
I use the GPL of virtual min and every time when i test the serverconfig 
at my office on vmworkstation6 everything works fine i can sent mail to 
the world.

When I transfer the VM to the data centre everything works fine but the 
mail client (thunderbird) now gets a relaying denied error on every 
outbound email 5.7.1

the server check on virtual min says all OK

anybody any ideas what this could cause

Ron, it sounds like a config issue with the email server.  I am not sure
what you are using but I do know that Sendmail and Postfix can be
configured to only allow connections from specific ip ranges.  It you
are not in that range, you get a relaying denied message.  I only allow
our internal ranges so we do not become a relay for spam.  When we added
a campus 2 years ago, I ran into a problem similar to yours.

I doubt you are the only one that has seen this issue.  Hopefully
someone will have a solution.  I am running a
postfix/postgrey/spamassassin setup in VMWare 1.0.4.  When I set it up I
forgot to allow an ip range at a remote site and got the same problem.
I did not run the setup via webmin.  I added webmin 3 months after the
fact.  What MTA are you using?

the only difference at the office was that it was ran on a
vmworkstation  and this one is on the vmserver 1.04

what you are using but I do know that Sendmail and Postfix can be
configured to only allow connections from specific ip ranges.  It you
are not in that range, you get a relaying denied message.  I only allow
our internal ranges so we do not become a relay for spam.  When we added
a campus 2 years ago, I ran into a problem similar to yours.

Some ISP's require that you use them as a relay.  I looked for the line 
in my Postfix configuration, but couldn't find it.  It is on a server 
that I just de-commissioned.   I was having the same problem.  The odd 
thing is it isn't consistent.  I have two other servers that didn't 
require it and one that did.

I will boot that server and get the .cf info and post it.

hosting centre here in the netherlands (telecity)

Hey guys,

"relaying denied" is not a useful description of a problem.  We need to 
see the relevant log entries.  (/var/log/maillog on Red Hat based 
systems, /var/log/mail.log on Debian-based systems)
