It's been possible to achieve this in 1.3.x CVS for a while now if you
split a stereo track, and then re-join it and try to manipulate the
resulting stereo track with the envelope tool. I think it's tied up with
the way you can click quite some distance (too far IMHO) from an exisiting
control point, and still pick it up to move rather than getting a new one.
This distance seems to be different for the two channels of the stereo
track, leading to one channel getting a new control point, and the other
moving the exisiting one.
I haven't saved enough complex projects to have an opinion on the save /
restore issue.
